Let me start with a date: the date of the shot, 18 September 2009, the day of my job interview at Immobiliare.it, my current company, in Rome. Even on that day, so important for my future life (though I didn't know it yet!!!), my railway madness went into overdrive! I took the night train before, the Freccia del Sud from Sicily (...), and took photos at Termini, Torricola, Campoleone, Tuscolana, Muratella, Ponte Mammolo (even buses!!!), and at Ponte delle Valli (on the freight line). Ah, and on the same day, I had 4 or 5 interviews between Ponte Lungo, EUR, Settecamini, Piazza Venezia, and who remembers where else... Who knows. Perhaps it was a premonition that, in the years to come, I would take and retake those photos: Rome (and its junction!) was about to welcome me as a new citizen. In this specific shot, E655 210 enters the siding at Campoleone station with a freight heading south. At that time the Rome-Naples high-speed line had only just opened, many Eurostars still ran on the slow line, there were many more passenger trains, so freight trains were frequently held for precedence. Today, on this line, these have almost disappeared. The E655 210, meanwhile, still runs around Italy in Cargo service, though I fear not for much longer.
